Throwback Thursday – Snowgirl

This Frozen inspired portrait came from the child’s love of Elsa and Olaf. She wishes she could have her own snow friend like Olaf, but it would be a girl. She imagined herself wearing a blue dress like Elsa and hanging out in a beautiful flower field with her new snowgirl friend.

5 Reminders For Times When You Feel Like Quitting

Writing and illustrating a children’s book has been very challenging.  There were many times where I just wanted to throw in the towel and chuck that thing in the garbage, but this is my dream.  I can’t give up.  I can do this!  It WILL happen!  I will see this to the end!

You have a dream too…I know it!  Don’t give up!  All your hard work will be worth it in the end!  If it wasn’t hard, it wouldn’t be worth it, right?

5 Reminders for Times When You Feel Like Quitting

1.  Your dream doesn’t have an expiration date, take a deep breath and try again (K.T. Witten)

2.  The moment you are ready to quit is usually the perfect moment before the big miracle. Do not give up! (Unknown)

3.  Never give up…you may never know how close you may be to achieving your dreams! (Unknown)

4.  You never fail until you stop trying (Albert Einstein)

5.  You are capable of more than you know (E.O. Wilson)

Now go out there and chase your dreams!

Mr. Ketchup & Me – Merited Image – Featured in the PPA Showcase Book

Last year I entered a few images in the Professional Photographers of America Northeast District and International Competition.  Tyrannosaurus Rita and Mr. Ketchup & Me both had won a Seal of Approval and a Merit Award!  However, Mr. Ketchup & Me was also chosen to be featured the 2015 Showcase Collection Book, which I just received! It looks awesome!

Showcase

What exactly is a Merit?  An image is heavily critiqued by highly trained professionals for 12 elements…

  1.  Impact
  2. Technical Excellence
  3. Creativity
  4. Style
  5. Composition
  6. Presentation
  7. Color Balance
  8. Center of Interest
  9. Lighting
  10. Subject Matter
  11. Technique
  12. Storytelling

In other words, it is very difficult to get a merit. It just makes me love Mr. Ketchup & Me even more!  This picture has always been close to my heart, because I was able to express just how much my daughter loved ketchup!  It warms my heart to know others love it too!

Throwback Thursday – Ellie’s Spa Day

The Child’s Imaginary Idea: She would love to have a baby elephant as a pet, so they can do their nails, their hair, dress up and do make-overs together. Just like her Mama, she always loves to take pictures to remember how pretty they looked after they were finished!

New Monthly Blog Series – Inspiring People

As you know, last week I had the great opportunity to interview Mindy Thomas from The Absolutely Mindy Show on Sirius Xm’s Kids Place Live!  If you missed it, be sure to check out the post!  I was overwhelmed with joy at how much everyone enjoyed my blog post about her…including my absolutely silly portrait of her roller skating with a purple polka dotted elephant!

I had SO much fun speaking with Mindy and writing about her, that I have decided to create a new blog series called Inspiring People.  Every month, I will post a blog about someone who inspires me!  It will not be your ordinary interview…I will try to reach way down and capture the spirit of their inner child!  And once I do that…I will surely make a silly picture of them living out their childhood dreams!

So, if you want to know more about people who inspire me and how I get them to reveal their youngest childhood dreams, stay tuned!  You are not going to want to miss this!

The Magical Waterfall

With butterflies in her stomach, bunny raced down the waterfall to catch up with her best friend, carefully protecting her delicious carrot snack!  The sun’s ray warmed her face, as the cool water tickled her fingers and toes.  The glistening water sparkled, as Panda tried to catch the colorful beach ball.  Giggles filled the fresh air!  This special waterfall was truly magical, because it brought their stuffed animals to life!  A dream come true!

What is my huge secret?

I know what you are thinking…what is she talking about??!!  I am talking about those crazy little quirks that we all have that make us unique and interesting!  Sometimes it makes you blurt out, are you serious?!  Well, I am going to share a few quirks of mine with you!  Let me know if we share similar quirks as you get to know my crazy self a little better!

Are you Serious

10 Interesting Quirks You May Not Have Known About Me:

  1. Cheez-its are my ultimate comfort food.  Not just any flavor either…Cheez-it BIG!  There is always a box in my house, but they are ALL MINE!  No touchies kids! Lol!
  2. I am deathly afraid of chickens and roosters, because one day when I was a child at summer camp, a rooster chased me until it took the salami right out of my sandwich!  (I also no longer like salami, because of this incident…lol!)
  3. I have a thing about never finishing my entire drink.  I always leave some in the bottom of my cup. Okay, truth be told, I once found something gross at the bottom of my cup after finishing my drink and I nearly thew up.  So, I just don’t want to know what’s down there…lol!
  4. I dream of living on a farm someday with a pet cow named Moomers and a pig name Oinkie.
  5. I say “Dude” an awful lot…probably because I was obsessed with Full House as a child…lol!  Okay…and this is a secret between you and me!  I may or may not have just gotten my hair cut like Kimmy Gibbler on the new Fuller House!
  6. Apparently, I slurp my coffee very loudly in the morning…according to my son.
  7. I can’t start my day without eating Flintstone Sour Gummy Vitamins!  It’s like starting my day off by eating candy.  Although, I am a little upset they changed the blue ones to yellow.  Who on earth likes sour banana flavor?  That is just gross!
  8. I tend to overuse exclamation points and lols!  That is just because I am a very happy, cheerful and excited person that likes to attempt to be funny!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I flip my necklace gem around and around when I am nervous or worried about something….the more nervous I am, the faster I flip it.  Hey…I am flipping it right now…lol!
  10. I always make a smiley face next to my name when I sign something…even when I probably shouldn’t.

Do you share any similar quirks?  I would love to hear yours!  Share in the comments!
